Community Foundations 101 Cohort Program

Now booking for 2027!

Embolden’s cohort programs are offered three times per year. Please contact Kelli Cavey at kcavey@embolden.com to register.

Embolden is excited to bring together a select group of community foundation professionals for a six-week educational and practical program designed to help newer staff get up to speed, build confidence, and hit the ground running!

Community foundations are unique organizations, and there is a lot to learn! This program will help participants understand what’s trending in the field, how community foundations work, how the pieces fit together, and how each team member can contribute to the organization's growth and impact.

Ideal participant

The ideal participant is someone relatively new to working at a community foundation, regardless of role or professional background. The program is also a great fit for tenured staff who would benefit from a back-to-basics refresher, a better understanding of how the organization works as a whole, and up-to-date trends across hundreds of community foundations.

Learning objectives

Examples of learning objectives include:

  • Build a solid understanding of how community foundations work, including fund types, charitable giving, grantmaking, and operations.

  • Understand the roles of donors, fund holders, professional advisors, nonprofits, board members, and staff, and how all of these relationships fit together.

  • Learn how community foundations grow through Meaningful Conversations, strong relationships, and great service.

  • Share ideas, ask questions, and learn alongside colleagues from other community foundations.

  • Walk away with practical tools, resources, and confidence to put new knowledge to work right away!
