Nonprofit Relations Best Practices Cohort Program

Embolden is excited to bring together a select cohort of community foundation professionals for a six-week intensive educational and practical program focused on building nonprofit relationships.

Community foundations invest significantly in their nonprofit communities, but staff on the community foundation’s programs and community investment teams rarely receive formal training on the relationship itself: what it is, what it makes possible, and how to manage it intentionally over time. This program is designed to fill that gap.

Participants will learn:

  • Tools for nonprofits. How to use the full range of tools for nonprofits offered by their specific community foundation, including grant opportunities, endowment building, complex gift acceptance, technical assistance and capacity building opportunities, and/or planned giving support.

  • Conversations with nonprofits. How to develop a productive and repeatable framework for meaningful conversations with nonprofits that (1) help educate nonprofits about how to work with the community foundation, and simultaneously (2) support a community foundation’s ability to learn from nonprofits to gain knowledge that can help support a community foundation’s relationships with its fund holders and donors.

  • Time management in nonprofit work. How to build internal habits and efficient workflows so that community foundations build “right sized” and still strong, long lasting relationships with nonprofits that ultimately improve the quality of life in the community, including connecting the dots internally.

The ideal participant is a community foundation professional who works regularly with nonprofits, whether as part of a community investment team, programs team, or development team, and regardless of tenure.
