A chilly Saturday afternoon. A special outing with mom, no sisters allowed. A brand new lavender jacket, the prettiest one on the sale rack, picked out all by herself. A late lunch at Panera, buttering a bagel with only a little bit of help with the knife. A stack of big girl magazines for light reading on the trip home, full of tips for looking good. All grown up.

Sound asleep in the cow print car seat, almost too small for a kindergartner.

But not quite.
