RI Small Business Person of the Year for 2009

Embolden President and Founder, Ann-Marie Harrington, was named the RI Small Business Person of the Year for 2009 by the U.S. Small Business Administration and was honored with a reception at the White House.


Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program

The website that Embolden developed for The Rhode Island Foundation in 2001 and 2002 won the Council on Foundations’ Wilmer Shields Rich Awards Program, which recognizes and encourages excellence in communications by foundations and corporate giving programs.


Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence

Embolden won the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

As a winner of the Sloan Award, Embolden ranks as one of the country's leading practitioners of progressive workplace policies.

The Sloan Award is part of When Work Works, a nationwide initiative to highlight companies that have made real commitments to using workplace flexibility as a tool to enhance the success of businesses and employees.


SBA RI Minority Business Enterprise of the Year Award

Embolden was awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration Rhode Island Minority Business Enterprise of the Year Award for 2008.

As part of a Rhode Island salute to small businesses, Embolden, a woman-owned business, received the Minority Business Enterprise of the Year Award for 2008 “in recognition of your success within a highly competitive industry, and your efforts in fostering the development of other minority and women-owned enterprises by having demonstrated a willingness to assist these firms whenever possible.”


Northern Rhode Island YMCA Woman of Achievement

Embolden President Ann-Marie Harrington was awarded the Northern Rhode Island YMCA Woman of Achievement Award for 2008.

The YMCA’s Women of Achievement Awards are recognized nationally and are intended to increase awareness and appreciation of the diverse contributions of women. The 15 award winners this year were selected for their work toward the economic empowerment of women.

The YMCA said of Harrington: “She practices an entrepreneurial spirit.” It also cited her achievements in winning the Sloan Award for Business Excellence.
